GrowDev(learn,design,code)
Software and web development are an attractive career choice to many different types of people from the technically minded to the creative. I would like to think that I am both but the real thing that brought me into the world of development is my love of learning. I love to learn, I love to see how and why things work. It is both an advantage and disadvantage when taking your first step out into the world of technology. Whether you are a new graduate following your first chosen path or making a bold career change. Learning is safe, you study, you solve the problem and you answer the question. Taking the first steps to opening yourself up to review by the world outside of academics is scary. The problems won’t always come as you expect and they don’t follow a curriculum. Failure is scary and there is no ‘repeat the course’ option. I’m learning it’s not about just being smart, about instantly recalling the answer, it’s about taking what you’ve learned and applying it. It’s also about taking what others have learned and knowing how to apply that knowledge. It’s about trusting yourself, putting yourself out there and not fearing failure but valuing the experience you gain along the way. Keep learning and keep trying.
My first challenge to myself and anyone reading this post is to take the plunge and put yourself out there. My first step is writing this post and hitting the launch button on this site (which I’ve been avoiding for a week).
What’s yours?
